Flutter by the Numbers: Adoption, Trends, and Why Developers Love It

1. Introduction

In Part 1 of this series, we explained what Flutter is and why it matters from a technical and business standpoint. Now, let’s dive into the numbers and trends that show just how much momentum Flutter has gained—and why it continues to earn the trust of developers and companies worldwide.

2. Developer Adoption

In the 2024 Stack Overflow Developer Survey, Flutter was used by 9.4% of all respondents, placing it among the top 15 most-used frameworks and libraries overall.

What makes this even more impressive is that most of the frameworks ranking higher are backend or data science tools (like NumPy or .NET). Flutter is one of the few client-side UI frameworks in the top tier—and the #1 mobile app development framework, ahead of React Native (8.4%), Qt (7.3%), and Electron (6.5%).

Among those learning to code, Flutter performs even better, with 11.1% adoption—clearly ahead of React Native at 6.7%. This suggests Flutter is especially popular among new developers, likely due to its fast feedback loop, visual design tools, and strong documentation.

3. Satisfaction and Admiration

60.6% of Flutter users say they admire it and want to keep using it—a powerful indicator of satisfaction. In fact, Flutter ranks 7th overall in admiration among all technologies surveyed, ahead of React Native, Electron, and other UI toolkits.

Additionally, 12.4% of developers who haven’t used Flutter yet say they want to try it. This places Flutter among the most desired frameworks, signaling growing curiosity and interest from the broader developer community.

This confirms that Flutter is increasingly seen as a more modern, flexible, and productive alternative in mobile development.

5. Market Adoption

Flutter isn’t just popular among individual developers—it’s being adopted at scale in the real world.

According to Apptopia (as cited in Google's official Flutter blog), Flutter now powers nearly 30% of all new free iOS apps published on the App Store. That means nearly 1 in 3 new iOS apps is built with Flutter.

Additional data from AppFigures further underscores Flutter’s presence:

  • 13% of all iOS apps currently use Flutter
  • 21% of all Android apps globally are built with Flutter

These numbers confirm Flutter’s rise from niche technology to mainstream solution—one trusted by both startups and large enterprises.

6. Conclusion

Whether you’re a solo developer or part of a large engineering team, the numbers are hard to ignore. Flutter is no longer an emerging alternative—it’s a proven, trusted framework being used to build apps at scale.

With high satisfaction scores, growing adoption across mobile platforms, and increasing migration from other frameworks, Flutter is solidifying its position as the go-to toolkit for modern app development.
